The Odyssea is a very long poem from about 700 BC. It is based on Greek Mythology and composed by Homer. The poem is about Odysseus struggle to return to his home after the Trojan war. He had to battle mysterious creatures and face the wrath of Gods. He had to win back the throne of Ithaca and defeat the suitors. Virginia Woolf’s three-part novel “To the Lighthouse” is a modernist classic published in 1917. This book describes Ramsay family visit to the lighthouse. All three parts depict different times in this family and the craving for the lighthouse in their memories. This book is an excellent read and is declared one of the 20th century’s best English novels.

Charles Dickens masterpiece ‘Great Expectations” is a must-read book for many aspects. It is a story of a young boy named Pip who lives with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr and Mrs Joe. He is raised in a blacksmith’s home and suddenly gets a change in fortune through a benefactor. He moves to London and enters a higher society. The book has a message to never give up for all the readers.

John Steinback’s “The Grapes of Wrath” was written during the Great Depression. This book centres on the Joad family, who were hardworking farmers and agriculture. However, the family lost everything during Oklahoma Dust Bowl in the 1930s. They then moved to California to change their fortunes. But the struggles continued as they couldn’t find work. A tragic yet exciting book to read.

Emma” by Jane Austen is a story of a lady named Emma Woodhouse. Emma plays as a matchmaker, but her matchmaking skills cause more problems than solutions. She renders her matchmaking services for her best friend, Harriet Smith, in this novel. During the process, she falls in love and creates more problems. This book is a romantic comedy and an excellent read to freshen up your mind.

Mikhail Bulgakov’s “The Master and Margarita” is a must-read for you if you are into philosophy. This book is a dark comedy of the Soviets. It got success due to its philosophical takedown of good and evil. It contains a message that good and evil are not independent of each other.
