The well-known clothing brand, Zara, is loved all around the world. The quality, the fabric, everything is spot on. As we know, every talk building has a strong foundation. Similarly, every successful venture has a solid foundation. In this case, for Zara, the foundation is none other than Amancio Ortega.

As a young boy, Amancio Ortega was determined to create a revolution in the clothing industry. He worked as a delivery boy for a men’s garment store and an assistant tailor in A Coruña, Spain, and this way became exposed to what turned out a dream journey.

Amancio Ortega discovered a way to approach a vast client base by making certain modifications in the processes. To illustrate, he thought that he could reach a vast client base by going with less-expensive materials, more efficient manufacturing systems, and competitive prices.

The first Zara store was established in 1975 at A Coruña. In 1985, Ortega found Inditex, the holding company having Zara as its flagship. Under Inditex, Amancio Ortega has the brands Stradivarius, Pull and Bear, Uterqüe, Massimo Dutti, and Oysho.

Inditex worked on a fast-fashion concept. They were quick on picking up new designs and processing them through a highly efficient manufacturing plant. Furthermore, the team delivered the new designs to stores within a few weeks. Most of its production processes were based in Spain, when many top brands outsourced their productions to China and other cheap labor markets.

Zara never has traditional apparel seasons. It just goes with the vibe. They keep what’s in fashion and take down what’s not. Moreover, Zara is quick at removing products that aren’t giving it anticipated profits. This fast-fashion concept has worked fine for the apparel brand, expanding to over 1000 outlets worldwide.

Amancio Ortega is one of the world’s top billionaires yet lives a very simple life. He has barred the media since the beginning of the struggle. Moreover, he is the epitome of “putting your head down and working hard.” In 2011, he even stepped down as the chairman of Inditex but remained an important member of the company’s operations.
