James Webb Space Telescope (JSWT) is an infrared space observation technology.

On December 25, 2021, NASA launched its highly advanced James Webb Space Telescope (JSWT). It is an infrared space observation technology that costs around $10 billion. It is NASA’s most powerful space telescope with a mission to observe the cosmos and bring out the underlying mysteries regarding the big bang. Its infrared technology was all set to produce some stunning pictures from the space and take space discovery to a brand new level.


March 2022 became the first breakthrough for the James Webb telescope. The officials released an image of a single star so staggering; the sun might blush for a while. The image was taken by a near-infrared camera (NIRCam). However, the telescope still has four other instruments that are yet to show glimpses of their greatness. 


The work is set to start with FGS (Fine Guiding Instrument) and then expand to the rest of the three instruments. The engineers claim that the new alignment will be complete in six weeks. The commissioning period for Webb should be finished by June, which is six months since its launch. It will then be able to gather data from exoplanets and galaxies. With the new alignment, the telescope will be able to switch between different cameras and use multiple instruments simultaneously. 


The experimental phase is off and running at the moment. Ground-based telescopes have engineers to operate them, but a space science telescope comes with numerous complexities. Soon, we will be able to see marvellous and breathtaking pictures from space that will leave us in awe.
