Novak Djokovic was deported from Australia last week preceding the Australian open. The world’s number one tennis player challenged his visa cancellation, which the court of justice rejected.

THE REASON

Australian immigration minister Alex Hawke rejected Novak Djokovic’s visa as his presence in the territory threatened the country’s civil peace. Novak Djokovic advocates ‘anti-vaccination sentiment,’ based on which his visa application faced a rejection. The Serbian star challenged the decision. Chief Justice James Alsopp announced the unanimous decision to dismiss his application, resulting in his deportation.

REACTIONS

Novak Djokovic exhibited displeasure on the decision. He felt ‘disappointed’ in not participating in the tournament. However, he wished the participants the best of their lucks. Serbian prime minister Ana Brnabic criticized the decision of Australian law of justice, calling it ‘scandalous.’ Serbian star’s fans worldwide were deeply grieved by the news of him not participating in the competition. They termed it as a ‘massive loss to such a prestigious tournament.

In November, the tennis star was issued an Australian visa and received an exemption from following immigration protocols. But this didn’t turn out enough. When he reached here, the immigration ministry canceled his passport, and he was detained in a hotel till further notice. Soon, the court declared the decision, and the gentleman was deported.
