Snooker GOAT

Ronnie O’Sullivan won his seventh world title on 2nd May 2022, after defeating Judd Trump 18-13. This feat made him the oldest ever to win a snooker championship. Aged 46, Ronnie seems unstoppable and wishes to continue competing till his 50s. He wanted to win ten titles before retiring from the snooker game.

English professional snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan outclassed Judd Trump to win his seventh snooker world championship. This championship made him the oldest player to win a global tournament in this sport. Nicknamed The Rocket, Ronnie also holds the record of being the youngest player to win a snooker world championship. He achieved that feat in 1993, at just 17 years of age.

With a win at Crucible this year, Ronnie has gone past Steve Davis and equalled the record of Stephen Hendry for most world championships. There is a debate whether Ronnie O’Sullivan is the greatest player to play the snooker game. He denies him of being the GOAT and crowns Stephen Hendry with noble praise. The experts, however, bring in numerous facts and factors that speak of the supremacy of The Rocket.

One thing that makes Ronnie O’Sullivan stand out amongst others is his longevity. He is the only player to win championships in three different decades. The point is that he never left the game. While other players felt fatigued and hung their boots, The Rocket hung around. With two distinct records to his name and probably more to come, he is arguably the GOAT for the snooker game.

Ronnie hasn’t had domination of Davis or Hendry sort, but his records are still unmatched. He faced several highly talented individuals during his era and stood his mark. The likes of John Higgins, Mark Selby, Mark Williams, Judd Trump and Neil Robertson were severe contenders in The Rocket’s era. Ronnie O’Sullivan holds the record for the fastest 147, in 5 minutes and 8 seconds since 1997. His glamour, fan following and merchandising are immense and unmatched. He is, indeed, the one and only snooker GOAT.
